Cork Bored…

A revision to my original submission for the corkway x vizcom competition in June of 2026. The design is a wall mounted unit that can be tessellated for larger wall spaces, remixed with modular components and easily mounted and re-ordered.

Process:

  • Original Submission

    I rushed to submit something on the last day of the competition and I wasn’t too happy with it. Not great for manufacturing, functionally thought through or aesthetically too exciting.

  • Back to the Sketching Book

    Dove back into the sketchbook to think through more details and brainstorm functionality in greater depth, still keeping the core idea the same and trying to improve.

  • Blenderizing

    Initial Blender sketches but wasn’t able to capture exactly what I was going for. (I’m still training)

  • Sketchover 01

    A nice deeply shaded ¾ sketch to capture my intent.

  • Orthos for the AI

    Sometimes giving the orthographic views along with the ¾ helps to achieve consistency and direction with vizcom.

  • Exploded View Sketch

    Detailing the hollow molded cork pins that capture the board between the wall mounting posts.

  • A Few Options

    I sketched out a few options for different modular components in order to generate some lifestyle imagery seen above.
